TERZ and other high tuned guitars
Terz (rhyming with hertz) means 'third' in German and indicates a guitar tuned up a minor third (three frets worth) compared to standard. This model is not designed as a 'travel' guitar, even though it is small and portable, but rather as a distinct instrument in its own right. You can of course get the same effect by capoing at the third fret on a normal guitar but the small body of this guitar dramatically enhances the sound at this pitch, giving a beautiful chiming, ringing tone.
Perfect for multi layered recording or guitar ensemble work or just to give a piece a unique character. I have decided to design my Terz as a fourteen fret guitar rather than a repro 'Baby Martin' or 'size 5' in order that it is a practical and versatile instrument.
Other high tuned guitars
This is a high tuned four string guitar I made for Kaki King it has an assymetric body (and almost everything else!) and has a scale length equivalent to a capo at the 5th fret on a normal guitar. It can be tuned like a tenor guitar or in any way desired with suitable string gauges.
I can make many formats of high tuned guitar - please enquire!
